Welcome to my stop of the blog tour for the book “The Last Resort” by Matt Drabble , hosted by Sage’s Blog Tours.
Let’s get on with the review, shall we?
Title: The Last Resort
Author: Matt Drabble
Genre: Horror, Thriller
Publisher: Eden Publications
Publishing date: 14th June, 2016
My Rating: 5/5 stars
The Paradise Resort is the ultimate in exclusive luxury island resorts, a private haven for only those deemed worthy enough to attend.
Landon Verger is a titan of industry and the founder of Paradise. The resort’s opening weekend should have been a celebration of wealth and excess, but without warning, it has gone silent.
Sam Verger knows his father only too well; the great man casts a long and dark shadow. He also knows that Landon Verger’s enemy list is long and varied, any one of which would love to see his father dead. Sam seeks to employ a professional to investigate the island, and Mac is one such woman.
An ex-military officer, she works dirty jobs and doesn’t ask questions if the money’s right. With her like-minded team, they travel to Paradise. Mac thought she’d seen everything that death had to offer, but she was wrong. What started out as a simple mission will quickly become the most desperate fight for survival she’s ever faced. There’s only one thing that she’s sure of: not everyone is getting out alive.
This book is phenomenal! 😀 ❤
When I read the synopsis I was interested in reading this book but when I saw Matt Drabble’s name on the cover I was sure that I had to read this book. I must say, not a decision I regret. 😉
I’ve read one of his books earlier, namely, “Asylum II – 13 More Tales Of Terror” (Click on the title to read my review) and I loved it. Matt kindly gave me one of his other books “Abracadaver” which I started reading right away but had to put it down because of college work and forgot about it. After I read “The Last Resort” I picked up “Abracadaver” again and considering the time passed between now and the last time I was reading it, I was sure that I would have to start again but to my surprise I remembered everything that I had read.
So, now I’ve read three books by this author and there’s no doubt that I will be reading all of his books. I never had books that could get me out of reading slumps but I found the author whose books are going to be a great help to me. Thank you, Matt Drabble! 😀 😀
The writing style is, to describe in a word, engaging. With some books you rush the reading to just get it done with but not with his book, not even a page. I never wanted to rush even a word of this book. I loved being captivated by Matt’s words, the world he paints is magical, the way your attention is captured is mindblowing, you will be kept rooted to your seat neither wanting to keep the book down nor wanting the story to end. 😉
I know this is supposed to be a review of “The Last Resort” but I am so impressed that I can’t stop myself from singing the author’s praises. 😀 😀
Anyways, getting on with the review… (finally 😛 )
The story is what the summary tells you but the book as a whole is much much more than I could put in words. The characters are unique and you will find all types of personalities there. Throughout the book the uniqueness of the characters was maintained.
The plot line might seem simple but the way the suspense unfolds is very interesting. There were subtle hints pointing towards the answer of the questions that the characters had and the questions which keeps the readers thinking, if you are an observant reader then you surely can guess but it will still surprise you.
The action sequences will have you cheering for the characters, the loyalty some of the characters show will tug at your heart, some characters might make you grit your teeth and you are sure to feel the adrenaline rush.
The minute details with which the author describes every thing is commendable. No scope for lazy writing. This book has every detail paid attention to and all the loose ends tied.
I am not going to reveal much because I seriously want you to read this book and mind you, it will keep you on the edge of your seat.
I will be including some snippets from the book here when I post my review for Abracadaver. Stay tuned for that. 😉 😛
Why would I pick it up?
That’s me with Matt Drabble’s books. ❤ ❤ I feel like a book with his name on it is the only thing I am going to need in future to read his books. 😉 😀
