Synopsis:

After a breakout and a devastating fire, the private hospital is finally refurbished and opening its doors for business again.

But the evil that has blighted this place runs deeper than the concrete foundations. Its very nature attracts darkness and now another storm is brewing.

Some of the most disturbed minds sit within the padded walls of Blackwater Heights. Each has a tale to tell and each is more shocking than the last.

Dr Hilary Meeker is about to take up her position on the staff. An ambitious woman looking to make her mark and climb the professional ladder with little regard to those she steps upon.

Dr Elgon Perrin runs the hospital, an unusual man with a unique style. But is he all that he seems, are his methods too extreme and is he more dangerous than the inmates that he stands watch over.

My Take:

Let me start out by saying that this is a great horror book! 😀

I will give you a couple of reasons as to why not only is the horror good but the book is as genius-

  • The way this book is written. Short stories placed strategically to form another story.
  • The stories don’t seem forced and are placed with perfect intervals.
  • The short stories have a nice horror element and the connecting story has a dash of suspense with obviously the terror and vibes of the place.
  • Details. Every story is said out with such details that you won’t forgot the 1st story by the time you reach the 13th.
  • Characters- as interesting as they come. 😉
  • Writing style- Captivating. You won’t even realize that you have been reading quite for sometime and were too engrossed in the book to notice that it’s dinner time. 😛

I never write my reviews in bullet points but when I started out with this review, I was like, you want to know why I liked this book, then here are the reasons- take it, take it, TAKE IT! 😛

Honestly, I love horror. Although I didn’t feel a thing during the day- not because the stories lacked the element but because I am a strong girl. 😛 Horror movies, shows, books never frighten me. Yeah, they give me creeps, sometimes. This book did too at the night. When I was reading at night, I looked twice for every sound I heard, ears alert like a cat. 😛

The stories are gruesome, terrifying, and intelligent. Can stories be intelligent? I think the writer created smart stories. These stories will surely be a hit on a camping night or sleepovers. 😛 😛 Imagine the screams… 😛

I definitely want to read more books by the author. 😀

Why would I pick it up?

All the bullet points are quite a lot of reasons to pick this book, aren’t they? 😉 I know they are, you know they are. What are you waiting for? 😛
