Synopsis:

A good vacation delivers you home alive.
This is not a good vacation.

When Rayanne commandeers her husband’s weekend fishing trip, she knows it’ll take work to adjust Owen’s attitude. She has no choice. Since the tragedy, they lost so much. They need to reconnect.

Without her knowledge, Owen texts his best buddy, Daryl, to join the getaway. The three of them aren’t alone in the backwoods of Georgia, though.

Owen took something that didn’t belong to him. Something that changed their lives. And now the owner wants it back. By any means — including a posse led by a killer dog.

At first, Rayanne is clueless about the item and its value. One thing becomes crystal clear: If it’s not returned, they might not make it home alive.

My Take:

The cover intrigued me first. It is quite simple yet there’s a beauty to it, a call for suspense. I read the blurb next and was drawn to it immediately. The first line itself held me captive.

A good vacation delivers you home alive.
This is not a good vacation.

The book is so smooth to read, I just devoured page after page, didn’t even remember when I started it and when the book ended. You just go on and on without realizing that you have been reading the whole time, the sentences are so well formed that it easily provides you a mental picture for all that is happening. πŸ˜€

I liked the characters, they were really well-described and maintained their demeanor throughout the book. The opening chapter actually gave me the complete idea for the book. It is the hooking chapter and the author has a done a good job with it. πŸ˜‰

I will say that this book is more of a thriller than suspense because for me all the twists were guessable, but the action was something else. This book is packed with action. Fighting with a fierce dog, rifles, arrows, baseball bat, punches, knife, you name it.

There isn’t much happening but you don’t even realize it because the story is so fast-paced that you don’t even notice that you are half through the book and well, the story is still there were it was a few pages back. The description of events is what carries it further.

To conclude, I think that the writing was genius and I would have liked more to the story. πŸ™‚

Why would I pick it up?

If not for the suspense then for the way this book is written. πŸ˜€ Smooth as butter! ❀
